Western Washington University, University Honors Program, & Fairhaven College

Class of 2024

WHAT WERE YOUR GOALS FOR COLLEGE ADMISSION? DID YOU ACCOMPLISH THEM?

My goals were to apply to and be accepted at schools outside of the state of Montana and to be able to apply for the Honors programs at those schools.

WHAT WAS MOST HELPFUL ABOUT WORKING WITH HUGHES COLLEGE PREP?

The most helpful thing about working with Hughes was how organized they were. I was easily able to keep track of all of my deadlines, essays, and application requirements.

WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST SURPRISE, GOOD OR BAD, ABOUT THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS IN GENERAL?

I was surprised at how quickly most of the responses on my admissions status came. I did not anticipate hearing back from schools so soon after I applied.

WERE YOU ACCEPTED TO ONE OF YOUR TOP THREE SCHOOL CHOICES?

Yes, I was accepted at every school I applied to.

DID YOU FEEL SUPPORTED BY HUGHES COLLEGE PREP DURING THE ADMISSION PROCESS? IF SO, HOW?

Yes. I knew that I always had someone who could look over my last essay and help me tweak it to perfection or keep me aware of the deadlines I had to make. I never had to worry about missing something or having an incomplete application.

WHAT SURPRISED YOU MOST ABOUT WORKING WITH HUGHES COLLEGE PREP?

I was surprised at how individualized Hughes is. I always felt like I had someone who knew exactly what my goals were and the best ways for me personally to accomplish them.

ARE THERE ANY ASPECTS OF YOUR TIME WITH HUGHES THAT STICK OUT AS HAVING CARRIED THROUGH TO OTHER ELEMENTS OF YOUR LIFE, BEYOND COLLEGE ADMISSIONS, SUCH AS COLLEGE, JOBS, ETC.?

I think that constructing my resume has prepared me for the future. I now have a well-polished, professional resume that can be added to and reworked as my education and eventual career continue.

WHAT IS ONE BIT OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE TO PARENTS OF COLLEGE-BOUND STUDENTS?

I would tell then that it is absolutely fine if they do not get into every school they apply to. What really matters is the work that they put in because in the end they will end up at the school that’s right for them.

WHAT IS ONE BIT OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE TO THE STUDENTS THEMSELVES?

I would tell students not to get too stressed out about deadlines and requirements and application boosters. What really matters to college admissions offices is the kind of person and student you are. I would tell students to be their authentic selves.
